Trivia: Although they are both from the genus Marmota, a groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, is different from a marmot, also known as a rockchuck. So if you try asking a marmot for your weather prediction in February you may get an unusual result.
Around Spokane there's a good population of yellow-bellied marmots, who are common to the western United States. They'd be much easier for me to find and talk to than groundhogs, which tend to the eastern US.
